SMOKE, FOG AND HAZE EFFECTS
Whether re-creating highly persistent smoke for whiteout conditions in enclosed spaces or non-persistent smoke within a simulator environment our smoke generator solutions are unsurpassed in quality and output. Most “entertainment” style smoke or fog machines measure output in terms of volume (cu m/min or cu ft/min) but this doesn’t speak to the density of the fog i.e. visibility. Our smoke is more persistent with longer hang times so even though the volumes produced are in line with all entertainment style smoke machines, the effect is far superior. Our competitors produce smoke particles in the range of 2 micron. Our systems produce .2 micron sized particles that are substantially smaller, have longer hang time and less prone to fall out. Advantages are a drier smoke that leaves less residue. There are also significant long-run savings with regards to smoke fluid since you can do more with less.
SmoX-12
The SmoX-12 is our flagship smoke generator. The SmoX-12 is well suited to applications where continuous, high smoke output is required since it utilizes a modular peristaltic pump system rather than conventional, low cost piston pumps. It is also highly durable with a precision-machined heat exchanger that is guaranteed for life and a 5-year warranty. The SmoX-12 does not compromise in the quality of the components used within the system. The SmoX-12 uses IP rated switches and indicators and an IP65 rated digital microprocessor control that displays actual and set temperatures.
The SmoX-12 has extremely efficient use of the fluid, 5-7 times more capacity to competitive systems when comparing density and persistence. The temperature of the heat exchanger is PID controlled so that the heat is pulsed as the main set point is reached, minimizing overshoot and undershoots.
About Smoke
SensoryCo SmoX systems are water based systems that produce smoke effects through a combination of heat and boiling fluid. The ability to manage particle size is incredibly important when it comes to smoke effects – too large particle will create “wet” smoke which will feel and look more like fog. Although essentially smoke created by water is fog, a heat exchanger creates smaller particles and creates a more authentic feeling of smoke versus fog. It is vital to manage the heat level appropriately; too high heat can cause formation of unpleasant and potentially dangerous pyrolysis products.
Types of Smoke
The majority of smoke chemicals in use today are typically water based systems. Water based systems are ideal when dense concentrations of smoke is needed such as for leak tests, air flow visualization, fire training and special effects. SensoryCo delivers the SmoX-12 line which is considered a Rolls Royce of water based systems. Easy usability and low cost of use are just some of the advantages of this water based system. This generator has an electronic temperature and smoke control module ensuring consistent output. It takes only 3 minutes to heat the full internal tank (approx 2 liters).
Smoke Safety
Our smoke systems are of highest quality ensuring safe and efficient creation of smoke. The automated heat precision module on the SmoX-12 generator ensures that the temperature does not go beyond safe levels. Systems that do not manage heat appropriately can potentially cause formation of hazardous pyrolysis products. In terms of safety, our smoke effects are among the safest available in today’s market.
Why Particle Size Matters
The heat exchanges in the SmoX-12 creates consistent smoke quality and micro sized particles that is unique to this system.
Why are small particles so important?
- Smaller particles require less chemicals in the atmosphere to create visibility
- Smaller amounts of chemicals mean higher safety levels
- Less chemicals mean less cost of operation
- Smaller particles have lower settling rate, creating less chance for deposition
Smoke Durability
When utilizing smoke for training and effects you want thick, lingering and seeping smoke. Particle size, temperature, viscosity and evaporation rate are all crucial elements to creating the ideal setting for smoke that lasts. The SmoX-12 has a water miscible pharmaceutical grade chemical with the highest boiling range in its class, and uses a very high percentage of this active ingredient in the mix. This creates an optimal combination of high persistent water based smoke combined with small particle size ensuring a slow settling velocity.
Ducting Smoke
For the purpose of leak testing and training smoke can be ducted at very low output levels. The challenge is artificially restricting the particles in a space where they can’t expand and react the way they normally would. For best results ducting should be performed at minimal lengths and kept as straight as possible. Fans can assist in managing smoke ducting and smooth bores are key to minimize friction loss. Since each case normally presents a unique set of circumstances we would be happy to consult with you on creating the optimal environment.
Temperature Resistance
High temperature tolerant smoke systems are often required for fire training. Since water based systems are suspect to the surrounding area temperature it is vital to have a system that is able to function during elevated temperatures. Ask about our systems that are not only resistant to hot temperatures but also create the thick, dense smoke that is needed to create the ultra realistic environment that this type of training demands.
