SensoryCo recently converged in Orlando for I/ITSEC 2024, the world’s largest modeling, simulation, and training event focused on providing training and simulation resources, devices, and education to military and industry leaders. SensoryCo is proud to provide products and services to experts in the training and simulation industry and suppliers that carry our state-of-the-art scent generators and scent cartridges for immersive training.
In live immersive training, scent plays a crucial role in enhancing realism and deepening the sensory experience for military personnel. By incorporating battlefield scents such as burning rubber, gunpowder, and diesel fuel, trainees can experience a multi-sensory environment that closely mimics real combat conditions. The use of scent generators allows instructors to disperse odors in a controlled manner, creating an environment that stimulates stress responses and improves decision-making under pressure. These scents are not just background elements, they are important tools integral to reinforcing the authenticity of the simulated environment, making training more effective.
“Once presented with the chance to include the element of “olfactory recognition” into these training scenarios, the benefits were immediately clear to us and our customers. SensoryCo has proven over the 5+ years of our business relationship to be a reliable manufacturer, both in quality and with timely delivery of their products. The wide range of aromas offered an incredible level of immersion into almost every category of products and environments our customers work in…. In addition to increasing the realism to these training events, an extremely beneficial aspect that these aromas offer is allowing our customers to familiarize themselves with odors that would otherwise be harmful, if not lethal, in the real world.”

The deployment of scent cartridges tailored for specific scenarios enables dynamic and adaptable training environments. Whether replicating the smell of a remote village scent with open fires and livestock or the acrid air of a post-explosion battlefield, these odors and malodors create a deeper connection between trainees and their surroundings. This immersive approach strengthens situational awareness as soldiers learn to associate specific smells with potential threats or safe zones. Over time, this sensory reinforcement can help personnel recognize danger signals more quickly in real-world situations, improving their ability to react efficiently in high-stress combat zones.
Beyond situational awareness, scents also aid in memory retention, making training experiences more impactful and enduring. The brain’s strong connection between smell and memory means encountering familiar battlefield effects during future operations can trigger faster cognitive recall and response. By repeatedly training with authentic olfactory cues, military personnel develop stronger neural pathways that support rapid threat assessment and decision-making. As a result, integrating scent into immersive training enhances not only realism but also long-term preparedness, ultimately increasing operational effectiveness on the battlefield.
Adding simulated scents to safely increase the effectiveness and immersion of training with easy-to-deploy SensoryCo scent generators is straightforward. Simply drop a selected scent cartridge into the device and activate the unit to generate the smell around an applicable area with a reach determined by the specific SensoryCo scent generator model. Each SensoryCo scent cartridge can be used for 100-200 hours of activation ,depending on the model (scents can be stored when not in use to increase longevity). Designed for small and large spaces, up close or ambient delivery, the SensoryCo scent generators can be tuned on manually, controlled by outside triggers and fine-tuned to customize the duration and/or strength of scent output.
